This is the second year Ignite Sport had the opportunity to take a team up to the Riverbend Sports Camp in Havelock North. 22 young people and six leaders made up the total team of 28 to take on the challenges of the weekend. It was fantastic to have 14 of the young people from last year come for a second year running, which along with the eight new additions gave us a really strong team.

In this our second year we finished a very close second place which is an improvement on last year’s 5th place finish. The team won six of the different sporting events, taking out Softball, Indoor Bowls, Spikeball, Touch Rugby, Women’s Basketball and Netball.

Overall the weekend was a mixture of lots of great sporting action in a supportive team family environment which made this year’s camp another really positive experience. Here is some of the feedback from the young people who attended: 

• I valued the amount of continuous support we gave each other, and how encouraging everybody was.
• I enjoyed being part of an amazing family that I was able to be myself, as well as that I valued the time we spent together as a group and made new friendships along the way.
• The thing I valued the most on sports camp was the people I met and friendships that were made! It was more than just a sports camp honestly, it was about making lifelong friends and growing your faith in God whilst playing sports you love.
• I will remember and cherish most the people and new friendships that have been made, and all the people that were a part of team Ignite that I will always remember and consider as not only friends, but family!

We are looking forward to continuing to keep up the connections with this awesome group and are excited to hopefully attend camp again in 2019.
