Impact acknowledged with award
Ignite Sport’s vision to inspire and impact young people has been acknowledged in the Wellington Region Business Excellence Awards 2016.
We won the not-for-profit category, which recognises ‘an enterprise committed to enhancing the quality of life of the wider community’.
Ignite Sport Coordinator Kevin Goldsbury said it was humbling and an honour to be recognised for the work we do, at this business excellence level.
“Our team has a huge heart for helping young people reach their full potential. We don’t do it for recognition, but when we are, it is good to also acknowledge all our supporters and partners that make us into the unique organisation we are.”
People from all areas of the business community gathered to celebrate the awards at Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre, Upper Hutt, early in November.
In his acceptance speech, Kevin challenged those from business, local government and others present to invest in Ignite Sport. He said Ignite Sport’s own investment is in the lives of young people who hopefully will become their future customers, clients, investors and employees.
Kevin said that by working together in partnership, so much more can be achieved for young people.
“Our involvement is at an age when most young people are making some of their most important decisions. As a result, we believe we help shape their future and ultimately their destiny,” he said.
The trophy is a panoramic representation of the Wellington skyline, highlighting some of the region’s iconic structures in abstract, set on a canvas depicting the hilly landscape and including a ribbon of Wellington colours representing the Hutt River and Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington Harbour).
Also finalists in the not-for-profit section were Earthlink Incorporated, Life Education Trust Lower Hutt, New Zealand Centre for Gifted Education and Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club.
